About Linda Jays
M.A, Dip. Clin. Hyp, MAPS
I am a clinical and counselling psychologist with over
30 years experience.
The hallmark of my
experience lies in the breadth of my experience & the deep knowledge of human
nature & change I have attained through continued professional development
and varied work & life experiences.
I have remained curious about the human condition & my helping role, & continually
update my knowledge & skills in scientifically validated theory &
practice.
I have broad ranging experience across the life span with my
adolescence & young adulthood spent working in my families Nursing Home , my
early work as a psychologist in Child and Family Mental Health and Intellectual
Disability & the middle and latter part of my work life in adult, couple & work–related concerns in my city practice of some 20 years.
Apart from my extensive experience as a psychologist, I
have worked as a manager of a Health Service Team & as a consultant to schools, organisations & specialists. These varied roles have provided multiple perspectives into human
issues & given me empathy and respect for an individuals endeavour to solve
their own problems & make sense of their world.
In my counselling
practice I look to provide a warm & reflective environment that both accepts
& understands the clients difficulties & provides appropriate ideas & challenge to old ways of being & feeling that may limit change.
The psychological models & interventions I utilise in my
work all look to the importance of thoughts, behaviour & feelings in
maintaining or changing our experience.
I am comprehensively trained in cognitive behavioural
models, systemic therapy, emotion focused therapy, intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy & neuropsychotherapy.
As a part of maintaining the highest standard in my
professional practice I have fortnightly supervision with a clinical psychologist who in turn receives supervision from a world renowned
practitioner in the field of psychotherapy.
I have a strong interest in physical health & the part it
plays in helping or hindering emotional health & wellbeing. I have looked to value integrative health
practises & how they supplement & support psychological interventions,
to facilitate effective & efficient relief from emotional problems. For example I teach breathing & relaxation techniques to
assist with anxiety & stress management.
